Isabella Preston and her dog

Isabella Preston was one of the first women plant breeders in Canada. She developed many lilacs, irises, and other flowers, including the Preston Lilac (Syringa ×prestoniae), a large, late blooming, cold-hardy lilac perfect for the Canadian climate and on display in RBG's collection.
